15 октября 1878 г. барон Д.Ф. Стуарт, имея статус российского посланника, торжественно вручил румынскому королю (тогда еще князю) Каролю I верительные грамоты. С этой даты принято отсчитывать начало дипломатических отношений между нашими странами. Шли годы… Много превратностей испытали эти отношения: стремление к урегулированию и взаимопониманию сменяли разрывы отношений, отторжение, неприятие, но потом снова начинались периоды смягчения. Такие перепады дипломаты осторожно определяют как «своеобразие различных периодов межгосударственных отношений».
