We guessed (мы пришли к заключению; to guess – гадать, догадываться; догадаться) that it was either some unknown animal, or a god (что это либо какое-то неизвестное /нам/ животное, либо божество). We believe that it is a god (мы думаем, что это божество) because he told us (так как он сказал нам) that he seldom does anything without referring to it (что он редко делает что-нибудь, не советуясь с ним; without – без; без того, чтобы; не /делая что-либо/; to refer – ссылаться /на кого-либо, что-либо/; обращаться /за помощью, советом и т. п./; сверяться с /записями, словарем и т. п./).
